The Challenge: Accessorize your wardrobe today with a touch of childhood.

Kim:
ladybug_earring.jpgWhen I was in third grade I got my ears pierced. This was a big deal. I was so excited. I had an earring tree, which was home to my many different pairs- both plastic and metal. Now, some twenty years later I find myself earring-less. I don’t often wear them, and I’m not really sure why. So, today I dug out my pair of ladybug earrings and put them on, I love these ones because they really look like I have ladybugs on my earlobes. I think I want to go get a bunch of other childlike earrings. It added a touch of fun to my day. Plus, it was kind of like a warning signal for others who saw me today. WARNING: This person does NOT take herself too seriously. (At least I’m trying not to.)

Jason:
loony_toons_tie.jpgToday’s challenge was a little bit more difficult than it may seem. On any given day, you might find me wearing jeans and a Superman or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup t-shirt. Accessorizing my wardrobe with a touch of childhood is fairly commonplace for me. Digging a little deeper, I thought about how kids love to play dress-up; getting all spiffed up like a "grown-up." (Funny how growing up holds such appeal when you’re little.) I decided to don dress clothes today, accessorized by a Loony Toons tie and Superman watch. The only thing missing was my mom’s stern warning not to get "all messed up."

Today I put on my socks with different colored poodles all over them. My former kindergartners would love them!

Today I wore my K&J “got mud” t-shirt…..MANY people noticed it at work….I got lots of smiles and had the opportunity to “cure” a little Adultitis today, in myself and others!

For today’s challenge I was still on the road, so I only had what I had packed. During my first sales visit I saw the perfect accessory for a child-like touch for my wardrobe - a Ring Pop! It was fun to wear and sweet to eat thoughout the day! It got laughs and comments from the store owners I visited today - totally in line with the Kim & Jason mission!

Today our employees and our customers at Maze Lumbre did not realize it but today was bow tie day! As stated in challenge #33 I purchased 2 bow ties at a local men’s clothing store. So this morning I stood in front of the bathroom mirror and I clipped on the large goldish bow tie. I snapped it into it’s place and boy did that bring back childhood memories! I wasn’t actually sure if I would wear it all day long especially since I had to go out with our newest salesman to do final measuring of some Marvin windows. This order would be in the $50,000.00 range and I didn’t want to make a bad impression. In the end I decided to just go for it and it was a HUGE success. I think my appearance just torn down the wall of apprehension and it went well. I think that they thought if this guy would wear “that” in public….well whatever.
Back at the shop the customers had plenty of comments when they spotted the bushy bow tie. It just put everyone in a playful mood. My boss Pete who’s father also named Pete was a champion in the bow tie movement was especially entertained by the wardrobe addition. Remember we wear bright yellow shirts. I also think that some of our regular customers thought either I was nuts or gutsy.
In the PM I brought the other smaller bow tie for Pete to don. The general feeling was that mine was Austin Powers like which I take as a compliment and Pete’s was Chip-in-dale like and could fit right in with Chris Farley on that Saterday Live skit.
Our new gal Patty said she had some old bow ties and regular ties that her mom was going to make into a quilt but never did and I said bring them on. I actually think I will make it a practice to wear either an interesting tie or bow tie once a week. It sure did lighten up the office today!

Today, I wore a homemade tourquoise scarf made by a friend of mine. I hadn’t worn it in quite some time - it was quite a contrast to the red shirt I had on underneath a sweater. A fun clash, just as kids would do, right?

For any of you who may know Doug- he likes hockey so he wore his famous Wayne Gretzki hockey jersey. Katie wore some fun socks that had foxes on them and said “foxy” all over the socks. It put us in a great mood!

[...] Dreary-ness, that begins with ‘D’. The thirty-sixth task: Accessorize your wardrobe today with a touch of childhood. My normal work attire consists of a t-shirt (or normal shirt) and pants. Not exactly standard business attire, and the exact type of clothes I wore as a kid. The clothes I wear are pretty much straight from my childhood as it is, so I wasn’t sure what I would do for this task. [...]
