My treat involved Jason’s face. Yes, the surprised look on his face when he walked through the door into his 30th (surprise!) birthday party. There is nothing more thrilling than the 30 seconds before the guest of honor comes into the surprise party and the 30 seconds after he/she has arrived. The biggest treat of all, though, was when I asked him if he knew about it, hoping he hadn’t been pretending for my sake, and he honestly assured that he didn’t know. Woo Hoo!
My version of an out-of-the-ordinary treat was completely overshadowed about fifteen minutes after I finished the challenge. I had lunch today with my brother Doug, and afterwards I had to run to the grocery store to pick up some mushrooms for Kim. I decided to splurge and pick up a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream (Cherry Garcia). Definitely a treat in our household. The fact that it was on sale made me think it was my lucky day… 
Today, I like Jason indulged in a little ice cream. I went to Culver’s & they had ‘Just Drummy’ in a cone. ‘Just drummy’ consists of vanilla custard, peanuts, fudge swirls, and bits of waffle cone. Yum yum!

I’m TOTALLY with Jason on the “Cherry Garcia”, a definite fave of mine!
Today I “treated” myself to some useful (and FUN) items for work - a cool jersey t-shirt that sports colorful stick people and says “celebrate physical therapy” and a “PT” themed note pad!

My treat included my secret addiction to video games. While cruising the clearance aisles at one of the local discount stores, I spotted a sweet indulgence - one of those plug-into-the-front-of-the-tv video games. It was a super flashback - Intellivision - yes Intellivision - while most of my peers had Atari or even Commodore 64 we had an Intellivision. It had some really fun games including Baseball, Shark! Shark! and my favorite Burgertime! I found this retro cool game with 10 games from the original game console including Night Stalker and Astrosmash! What a treat!

I really like reading James Patterson novels for fun (if you’ve ever read one, you would agree that they have NOTHING to do with my work!) and haven’t read one in quite some time. So, before heading home for the day, I stopped at the library and picked up a couple in the Detective Alex Cross “series.” With my hot cocoa in hand, I’m ready to get back to reading - I’m already on page 66.

In Peru. Illinois we have this old time men’s clothing store that has been passed down over the years called Vlastnik’s Menswear. The younger generation runs the place and they do a great job. They handle many of the hard to find sizes. So today I went in there after work and asked to see their selection of bow ties. The older gentleman looked at me in surprise and he said they had a box of them somewhere. They looked around and then he pulled out this shoe box size full of bow ties! I picked out a rather large one, goldist color and soft, almost like teddy bear material. $5.00. Then I got another about 1/2 the size of the above one. $2.50. I actually did have a blue/white bow tie in my adult years but have misplaced it and have not seem it for years.
The bow tie has a special place for me because my old boss Peter G. used to wear them all the time and him sitting on boxes of Maze Nails became the company trademark. So for around 8 bucks I made myself happy and made the clothing store guys smile!

Kim:Well, as you may remember from Challenge #33 last Saturday I hosted a surprise birthday party for Jason to celebrate his 30th birthday, which happens to be this Saturday. This party would NOT have happened if it weren’t for my sister-in-law, Katie, who initiated the idea and pretty much organized most of it. So, in order to show her how much I appreciated her help I took a page out of my own childhood- I made her a homemade card. Ironically she had brought Jason and I the funny pages a while back from her massive Sunday paper. I had them in the recycling, so I dug them out and started reading some of the captions. I ended up cutting out captions and putting them in an order to tell the story of how the party came to be. I even found a cartoon of a little blue bird, which is symbolic for Jason (Jbird). The text came together perfectly. I added some fancy little borders on the card and away it will go to her house. I plan to mail it so she will be surprised, unless of course she reads this first.
