Every Thursday, we pick out one of the cool things from the Kim & Jason Lemonade Stand and give it away. Yep, for free.

This week’s prize is a set of Love Vouchers. This unique collection of vouchers are the gift that gives twenty times. Perfect for birthdays and holidays, Vouchers allow givers to express their love in refreshingly non-material ways as recipients redeem the individual Vouchers over time. Each set contains 20 diecut, perforated cardstock vouchers, including such romantic and useful Vouchers as “Candlelit Bath” and “End to Argument.”

Here’s how to enter:

  1. Just leave a comment on this post, answering this week’s question: “Share a funny, embarrassing, sweet or sappy story about an elementary school crush.”
  2. Deadline for entries is 11:59 pm CST on the day of the post. We’ll pick a winner from the list of comments on the following Friday.
  3. We’ll contact the winner by e-mail to find out where to send the free prize.

Good luck! And don’t miss any of the other cool stuff for the young at heart at The Kim & Jason Lemonade Stand!

**UPDATE: This week’s winner was George:

I was in love with Tammy Klein. Of course she didn’t know it- how could she? I couldn’t even say “hi” to her. It was first grade; I was 6 and clueless.

So I tried to impress Tammy Klein by doing the most logical thing I could think of: lifting an entire desk with one hand.

Disaster followed as the desk flipped and landed on my first watch. It was an $8 Timex my grandmother had given me on my birthday. It had been sitting in a Kleenex box that had been sitting on top of the flipped-over desk.

I did not awe Tammy Klein with my incredible strength. Rather, I’m sure that to this day she tells the story of the dork in her first grade class named George who smashed a perfectly good watch for no apparent reason and then cried like a baby about it.

Even though this week’s contest is over, you can still buy your very own Love Vouchers at the Kim & Jason Lemonade Stand. And stay tuned next week for the next chance to win!

A missionary family home from Africa joined our church and the mother joined the choir. As I sat next to her and chatted, we discovered that she had gone to the same elementary school as my husband had. When I told her his name, she cried, You married DONNIE SIPE? My girlfriend and I had the biggest crush on him in elementary school!”

Was I surprised to imagine my eight-year-old future husband with a pair of girls swooning over him!

There was a rule at my elementary school about playing chase at recess. But I was 7-years-old and in love with Josh Adams. What better way to express my affections than chasing him around the playground? On picture day that year I was dressed up in a cute blue velveteen dress, white tights, and black patent maryjanes. Recess came and I, of course, was chasing Josh. Not surprisingly, the traction on my maryjanes wasn’t quite as good as the shoes I was used to running in. I slipped and fell, and ripped holes in both knees of my tights. When I went crying to a teacher I knew that I’d be in trouble for chasing. So when she asked what happened, I told her Josh was chasing me!

I loved a boy in grade six and he asked me to go to a movie with him… of course I said yes. The afternoon we were to go I was SO nervous for my very first date that I actually cried. But when he (and his mom) showed up to pick me up I went and it went ok. But I learnt that once you turn a perfectly relaxed fun friendship into a date it turns nerve wracking!

I’m telling you this story, but I’m not entering–I prefer making my own coupons for my hubby.
In preschool, I had a crush on Vincent, and Vincent owned a Speak-and-Spell when no one else did.
Michael, well, he wanted to use the Speak-and-Spell. “Can I?” he asked Vincent.
“No,” Vincent and I answered together. Why I felt I had a right to answer this, who knows. But whatever the reason, I felt the fact that we gave the same answer at the same time warranted a kiss.
Which I promptly gave Vincent.
The end.

When I was about 8 or 9 years old I had a crush on an older boy at my grade school (PRAIRIE QUEEN). He was probably about 11 or 12. Anyway, I remember that everyday for lunch he would bring a thermos full of bacon and bean soup. HMMM did it every smell good. Well, my Mom was expecting a new baby and our family was trying to figure out a name for baby (# 7). I suggested the name Kenny, if it was a boy (my parents didn’t know I had this crush on Kenny Goodchild). Sure enough the baby was born and HE was named KENNETH PAUL. This was 51 years ago, but I still have to smile when I think about how my youngest brother got his name.

I had my first “boyfriend” in 5th grade. We didn’t even hold hands! But we had fun times together. Once, while we were playing racquetball, the ball bounced toward me and I swung with all of my might (with my eyes shut no less) and my racquet connected with Garrett’s head instead of the ball. Oops! He had a red mark on his face for a long time after that!

I had a friend in 6th grade that had a HUGE crush on a certain boy. Part-way through the year we were doing a unit on rescue breathing and we actually got paired up with different people in class. Well, my friend got paired with the guy whom she had a major crush on.
I don’t imagine that they ever got past the laughing about being together.

Recently, my husband and I are celebrating our first Valentine’s together tonight! We were married in September 2007 and dated so sporadically before that, that we were never dating on Valentines!

I had this really goofy friend by the name of Michael. We were always together in elementery school. He was tall with bright red hair and lots of freckles. I had always known him as a great friend and more like a brother to me.

One day in the 5th grade, I was away from my desk and when I walked back to it I noticed Michael was writing something on my work paper. I walked up behind him and asked if he was cheating. He quickly erased what he was writing but it could still be read. It said he had a crush on me. It just was never the same between us after that and my family moved during that summer. I never saw him again but I can still remember his smiling freckle face and his blushing cheeks when I caught him.

Oh I was such a dork. For Halloween in 6th grade I wore this flapper (like from the 20’s) outfit and I was POSITIVE my crush would like me as soon as he saw me. Instead I earned the nickname ‘featherhead.’ LOL.

When I was younger, all my friends were boys. I did, however, in second grade especially like one boy named Jeff. He seemed to like me, too. At Halloween time, I asked him to marry me. He said yes! We got “married” on the playground at recess with our friends watching. Oh, and the cutest thing? We used orange spider rings!! So cute!

Yeah, I’m too late for the coupon challenge - a day late and a dollar short that’s me.

Okay, when I was in 7th grade, I had my first crush…they called it “puppy love” back then. I was smitten with the new boy, Tommy, in our class. No one could tell me it was “puppy love”. It was the real thing.

I even took my pen and drew a ring on my finger with the initial of his last name “W” on it. When others saw it, they promptly made fun of me being in love with Tommy. My face turned beet red as I claimed that it was NOT a “W” is was an “M”…for Marilyn.

Tommy never, ever looked my way. His heart was stolen by the most popular girl in our class. My puppy love finally did grow up (adultitis?) But, there will never be anything like that first threshold of love…no matter how one-side it is! Marilyn Kinsella
