Cell PhoneWarning sign that you might be taking yourself too seriously (a.k.a. Adultitis Symptom)… there’s a cell phone in your ear, but you aren’t talking to anyone. Heck, you aren’t even expecting a call.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the idea of hands-free cell phones. They are safe for driving and making typing much more convenient. It makes sense in a lot of situations, but when I see someone out to eat with her husband with a cell phone in her ear, I can’t help but wonder. I just hope she’s an emergency responder or waiting for a call from her best friend who is about to go into labor.

One thing I know for sure, if we take ourselves too seriously, life will be sure to humble us… publicly. Whether it’s Charmin on your shoe or a mysterious black thingy in your teeth, which you horrifically discover in the mirror hours after dinner, rest assured it will happen.

Take the cell phone out of your ear and truly “be” in the moment.

Once again, I couldn’t agree with you more.
And I was sad I missed out on the scarf! (My blog reader is usually a day late.) I’ve recently taken up knitting and discovered my addiction to yarns. I walk around Hobby Lobby rubbing them against my cheek (don’t worry–the one on my face!). Mmm, so soft…

This relates to my pet peeve: people who text message other people while they are eating with me or others. I keep asking what’s so important that it can’t wait until we are done eating and enjoying our meal and they keep saying, well, it’s text so they need a reply now. I still don’t get it but ask that they put the phone away while we are eating. My friend is getting better at it but I still have to remind her.

Check out this awesome youtube video of Larry David (somewhat explicit) on the subject.

Too funny! I think it’s hilarious when I see people walking through the store with cell phones plastered to their ears. Once I watched a woman do this for over 20 minutes! She was asking what to buy for the house. Ever heard of a list?

Maybe it’s because I’m not popular enough to get so many phone calls, but to me I think such excessive cell phone use does nothing but feed the ego. I mean how many times do you have to run into other carts because you weren’t paying attention before you put the phone down?

Wow, I think that’s the biggest rant I’ve ever done. Ahh well, it had to happen some time. :0)

We are currently cell phone-less and I LOVE it! We did it because:

1. The service is terrible in the north woods
2. We’re now on a budget!
3. They were for emergencies anyway. (Hey, what did we do BEFORE cell phones?)

Well, they do have their place, no question. My brother is a travelling rep…he has one. His wife drives almost an hour to work–she needs one too.

We were discussing this the other day, and I was saying how I don’t miss it at all. I used it out of necessity, and after having a child I found it so easy to fit in phone calls to my friends while driving to the grocery store. Bad I know. My husband on the other hand feels his social life has totally tanked without it (Yes, once I had to make a rule “no cell phone calls when we’re out!”)
and he NEEDS one. I don’t miss the phone ringing so much–one less thing to have to do in my busy life.

Most people have them, they are practically a necessity today, but I agree we need to be in the moment much more!
