It’s Good Friday.

Jason and I continued our recent tradition of watching The Passion of the Christ this evening. It helps me put all of this in perspective. It’s so hard to wrap my bird brain around the reality of this sacrifice most days. I know The Passion is criticized for being too graphic. For me, I need it to be graphic.

It’s like when a parent has given his child a warning against a certain behavior a couple of times and the child persists. Inevitably the parent needs to take the child, square her shoulders up to his, look her straight in the eyes and say, "Listen, that’s enough."

That’s what The Passion is for me.

My Father (as we’re reminded Abba, aka Daddy) grabs me by the shoulders and says, "Listen to me. Yes, this really happened and I did it for you."

The most tragic part about this reminder is the reality of tomorrow. Tomorrow it’ll be harder to remember…especially next week and the week after that. We get back into the grind of day-to-day, the routine and tragedy of busyness. I read a quote this past week that has been echoing in my head ever since I read it.

"If the devil cannot make us bad, he will make us busy."

Busyness is a distraction.
From what?

Truly living.

“I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” -John 10:10

I pray that I can have the childlike faith and childlike perspective to remember that life is a gift…meant to be lived to the fullest.

For that is why He came.

We also started watching THE PASSION on Good Friday. However, this year, I read Anne Catherine Emmerich’s book, which the movie is based on. Its her visions of the Passion. I highly recommend it! As always, the book is better than the movie! It just put it all in perspective. It was much more intense, which made me realize even more how much Christ endured for us. Its really beautiful!
